NAUMACHIA : PART IA - HEXAPOLIS

Hexapolis is a project I have to make a modular city at 1/3600 - 1/3000 scale.

It can be used with campaugns and allows tiles to be laid in different configurations to represent different harbour cities.

There is a military harbour, mercantile harbour, upper class urb, lower class urb, administrative buildings, acropolis, agora.

This combines with the modular fortification system shown in Naumachia Part 1.

They can be scratchbuilt or cast in resin.

Lastly, my unfinished model of Naupaktos to go with a game of Phormio's famous campaign.

NAUMACHIA : PART I

And here we have them . All lit up. Its wonderful. Like fairyland. All lit up.......

No, actually, here we have the ancient Carian city of Miletus. In 1/3600 scale.

The ships are Outpost Wargame Services' 1/3600 series.

A normal day at the merchant harbour with traffic coming and going.
Some odd wind patterns but no one notices.

And then ! here comes a Roman fleet. The landlubbers with their towered flagships, and a vanguard of corax-equipped quinqueremes.

Roman quinqueremes and hepteremes in centre with towers

Corax-equipped ships in front

The Milesian's launch their guard flotilla of triereis.

But because this is just a demonstration parade it all ends with a cup of tea.

Finally a peek at the walls of Hexapolis. A modular fortification system for this scale I made to go with the modualr city of Hexapolis.2mm figure strips work ok with it.

Obviously not meant to be placed in the sea!....

HEXAPOLIS PLANNING APPLICATION APPROVED

Hexapolis project took another step in the weekend.
Basis is 7 tiles : Upmarket housing, Common housing, Citadel, Civic Quarter, Cult Quarter, Merchant Port, Naval Port. Wall sections to follow that will allow the whole to be circumvallated.
First mould and resin tile
Tile painted and Hexapolis
Some 2mm tourists wandering about Hexapolis
Miletus
Miletus proved to irregular and large to be effectively moulded and cast. Hexapolis allows many different cities to be represented and 2mm figures can be used for some land combat with them.

Hexapolis

Preview of city project. Idea is to be able to make a variety of city terrains in 1/3000 from a set of seven different tiles.
COMMON HOUSING
WEALTHY HOUSING
CULT PRECINCT
CIVIC PRECINCT
CITADEL
MERCANTILE HARBOUR
MILITARY HARBOUR

Plus sections of wall.

The choice of scale is difficult. There are 1/3600 ships, 1/2400 ships - therefore 1/3000 suits both.
With some careful layout the tiles can be used with Irregular's 2mm figures (HERE described by Tony Hughes) - I dont think they will look too bad. Better than counters anyway.
'Rioting in Alexandria' anyone?

Anyone mentioning Moonbase Alpha will be keel-hauled....
